How high-quality luxury vinyl flooring should look

Luxury vinyl (LVF) has a high-end style that’s a wonderful addition to any room from the kitchen to the living area and bedroom. It also offers waterproof capabilities, durability, affordability, and easy maintenance. In short, LVF is a realistic mimic or wood, stone, or tile, often cut into planks or square, groutable tile-sized pieces. It’s important, however, to be sure you are selecting true luxury vinyl. You can learn more about quality when you visit our luxury vinyl flooring showroom. Meanwhile, know what makes it stand out from the other.

Clear, true-to-life, and exciting images

High-quality material is taken with 3D photography and has vivid colors, patterns, and features. Knots, swirls, and veining/variations are in full display. Also, the image should be deeply embossed, giving it depth and dimension with textured appearances. Finishes come in matte, gloss, or high gloss colors.

The core affects waterproof capabilities

The core's job is to affect waterproof capabilities, and a typical one is a solid vinyl. If you want a higher level of protection, ask about WPC (wood plastic composite) or SPC (stone plastic composite). Neither will peel or ripple no matter how much water and moisture it is exposed to or for how long. While both have the same waterproof characteristics, SPC is more rigid and slightly more resistant to dents. Because WPC is more flexible, there is more cushioning underfoot, as well as deeper embossing.

Wear layers, durability, and thickness

Durability is affected by the wear layer, which protects the floor from scratches and scuffs. The wear layer even helps out with waterproofing, because it keeps spills at the top. This is where it can get a little confusing: The overall thickness of the flooring should be 8-mm, 9-mm, or even higher (up to 12-mm if you want that authentic hardwood feeling.) The wear layer, however, is measured in mils and that should be at least 20-mils. Don’t just ask about overall thickness, also ask about the wear layer.
